How the holistic beauty journey could change your life & health forever

July 15, 2014

How are you feeling today beautiful?

How does your body feel? Are you energetic, alive or radiant?

…or are you tired, weary and sluggish?

Let me ask you this question, do the latter of those words resonate with you more than the former?

The journey towards holistic beauty begins with asking yourself that simple question – how do I feel inside? how do I feel outside? are the two aligned with one another?

Morning beauty rituals – the art of oil pulling

Oil pulling - with text

Beauties! Have you heard the fuss lately around oil pulling?

It seems all the “whose who” of the wellness industry are all into it, and if they’re are doing it then there’s a good chance it probably works. When it comes to improving your health and wellbeing, life is one big self-experiment right? In our household that is certainly a mantra. And so the oil-pulling journey began…

I’ve always had a strong fascination for Eastern medicine, especially the realms of Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Herbal medicine. For me personally, medicinal practices that have a few thousand year history should have a complimentary place in the Western world. I knew if oil pulling originated in one of those two realms, there’s a good chance it is well founded, and well, it probably works.

How to make your own nut mylk goodness with Lizzy of Primal Junction

Nut mylks (as they are fashionably called) are an easy, healthy and affordable substitute for pasteurized dairy milk.  Not only are they delicious and creamy, most people will digest and absorb nut mylks much more easily, without the inflammatory and digestive side effects.

Why go nuts about nut mylk?

The high-heat processing of pasteurized cow’s milk destroys almost all of its nutritional value. This is a way of increasing the shelf life of a product that can be sold commercially. In our opinion, cow’s milk from the shelf is not a real-food. Pasteurization destroys the beneficial bacteria and natural enzymes found in raw dairy milk.

After exploring nut mylks – I have found these are an even tastier start to the day and can be added to smoothies, porridge, coffee and recipes.

This time last week were rolling along in the car through the countryside of Tasmania soaking up the glorious wide open spaces that the island has to offer. My husband and I, were chatting and listening to Triple J radio when suddenly my little ears pricked up. The news story was examining the role of mircroplastics in beauty products and it’s connection with the environment.

Microplastics? Say what?

Even hearing that word rings alarm bells in my head, and the thought of it being in beauty products we use every day had me screaming WTF!

The particular radio story that caught my attention was acknowledging the recent visit by Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands. As the President of Fauna and Flora International, she was in Australia to raise awareness around the environmental impact of mircroplastics – in particular as an ingredient in beauty products.

oils for dry hair image

If you are anything like me, my body doesn’t respond well to the cold. The visible signs of a change in season aren’t always that flattering, my skin gets a little dryer as the air cools and we dive for hot showers.

But the one thing that has left me a little embarrassed of late, is a dry scalp. Ewwww….I know, embarrassing huh!

And you know what? I realised that some of our beauties out there might be suffering the same, so we decided to put together 5 natural and easy ways to say goodbye to dryness.
