If you are anything like me, my body doesn’t respond well to the cold. The visible signs of a change in season aren’t always that flattering, my skin gets a little dryer as the air cools and we dive for hot showers.

But the one thing that has left me a little embarrassed of late, is a dry scalp. Ewwww….I know, embarrassing huh!

And you know what? I realised that some of our beauties out there might be suffering the same, so we decided to put together 5 natural and easy ways to say goodbye to dryness.

Our biggest tip from the Green Beauty 101 series

April 7, 2014

basics of green beauty

After twisting and turning our way through the chemical maze these past 5 weeks, you might be left thinking, so where do I go from here?

Are you still confused?

I totally hear ya girl! Even though I have been on the green beauty train for a long time, I am continually learning. The trick for me, was knowing a few key ingredients to look out for and finding the brands I can trust. Brand trust, from a truly authentic and ethical place.

The aim of our series was to give you an insight into a handful of ‘toxic’ ingredients which we found were commonly singled out as the one’s to look out for. This was a process of scouring the internet and reading my way through my favourite text – The Green Beauty Guide.

Basics of Green Beauty – Tip Five Say No To DEA and TEA

March 31, 2014

DEA and TEA

We have reached Tip Five now in our series, and while researching and reading through my green beauty Bibles I stumbled upon and interesting thought.

Why is it that there is so much written about the potential dangers of these chemicals, yet are there so little tests done on humans?

Julie Gabriel, put’s it down to the fact that no human is willing to be a lab rat for testing chemicals (with scary sounding names), that in their undiluted state can potentially be very dangerous. Let’s use the rats instead? That’s exactly what they do.

So Beauties! Remember this fact from Julie Gabriel next time you reach for your Shampoo –

Basics of Green Beauty – Tip Four Say no to Petrochemicals

March 26, 2014

petrochemicals

Petrochemicals, sounds a little like petrol, sounds a little suspicious don’t you think?

That’s why we’re here to tell you a little more about:

1. what this term actually means in relation to your beauty products and

2. why it might be a good idea to give it the old ‘one two’ (flick!)

Nasty? why you say?

One particular form of Petrochemicals you may be familiar with in cosmetics is mineral oils. Mineral oil is a by-product of petroleum distillation, and during the process a whole host of other solvents and acids are used.

Similar to our little friend the Parabens, the issue with mineral oils like petroleum jelly (also known as a Petrolatum) is that it can be contaminated with cancer-causing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Because it is often tricky to distinguish whether the chemical is being used in its pure form, is another reason to be suspicious.

Basics of Green Beauty – Tip Three No to Artificial Fragrance or Colours

March 18, 2014

fragrance

Roll on Tip Three beauties! This week we are looking at why you should avoid artificial fragrances and colours in your beauty products.

As Conscious Beauties, many of us are already fab at avoiding artificial flavours and colours in the food we consume but sadly this may be neglected when it comes to beauty products. This is especially true for smell, for almost every product you pick up contains some form of both fragrance and colour. As with many of the chemicals discussed previously, the trick for newbies is knowing what to look out for, because many are implicitly labelled.

Nasty? why you say?
