I like to think that I’m a closet self-improvement junkie. Rather than blurting out gospel, I subtly weave words of wisdom into conversations.
Sneaky much?
I call it showing up in the world as your radiant self, playing big, living into possibility…and soon enough they’ll be curious.
In reality, I’m bowing to the ‘church of self-improvement’ (as Danielle LaPorte would call it) on a regular basis. Often found alone, absorbed in my latest spiritual fascination. Like anything I’m passionate about, there are times when the church becomes a little too intense and I have to pull away momentarily. I step back, overwhelmed with new possibilities (this is not a bad thing). But if I step back for too long, habits are lost as I stray and explore something new.
I’m sure you get it beautiful. The pattern of immersing yourself in a new self-improvement bible goes a little something like this…
Day One: Initial discovery, new possibilities, filled with wonderment. Like some sort of divine timing (which it probably is) the bible just seems to ‘appear’ out of nowhere.
Day Two – Five: Then comes, learning, learning, learning.
Day Seven: You’re diving in head first, immersing yourself, basking in numerous ah ha moments. Then consciously stepping back.
Day Ten: Sold. Time to implement. Time to create.
If you had a look at my bookshelf, you’ll see it is a shrine to a myriad of strategies for discovering purpose, alternative medicines, ways to detach from the ego, yoga, sacred geometry cards and on it goes. It’s all there, a collection of new ways of being, whether I’m currently a devout follower…or not.
But as I sift through them, there’s one book that has become a continual bible of inspiration for me.
She calls it The Desire Map. And her name is Danielle LaPorte.
In the essence of life changing practices it is a ritual, a yearly process I can’t live without.
Driving my desires – are daily habits to become my own brand of beautiful.
When it comes to becoming your own brand of beautiful, what you desire shapes every part of your being. Living through your desires is the spark for that luminous smile.
The Desire Map is a framework for forming and maintaining habits and routines, because small steps forward are better.
I invite you to BE your desires.
