For the last 3 months, I’ve been on a journey of the inward kind with a very special lady.

It was a journey of shedding, releasing, tears, laughter, lightbulb clarity, reflection and projection. Shit got real, and it was on me to kickstart the transformation with Jenna Ward as my mentor.

What you may not realise, is that I, like you deal with the same stuff that any human goes through moment to moment, day to day. Just because I help other women transform their lives, doesn’t mean I’m immune to what ever life throws at me.

Towards the end of this (big) year, I stood in the power of choice and within a space of 2 weeks I paid a decent four-figure sum and made a commitment to my future self and my business.

Just writing that sentence alone feels empowering.

In this past week, I concluded this 12 week journey with Jenna. With the experience fresh in my mind and body I feel compelled to share with you just how it was going to get me closer to my dream.

First lesson, I learned what it meant to consistently show up for YOU.

Same time, same day, for 12 weeks. We turn up to a job every day, to the gym, for our children, our partner, for our favourite Netflixs show.

But how often to we truly show up for ourselves?

This single element alone was enough for me. If we make a commitment to show up for our own personal wellbeing – with a coach, in meditation, whatever medium, we will not only see change, but we create a love for ourselves that says:

No matter what happens, I am here for you.

I can now take this and transpose it into my work. I gained the value of showing up consistently for those whose lives I wish to effect.

In the space of one conversation, I gained a safe, neutral voice and a cheerleader.

Who doesn’t need that? I was able share anything, without feeling shame or fear. 

The mentoring process allows us to explore a new path (for me embodiment) from someone who is walking the walk.

You learn the power that is available to you when you deal with ‘life’ as it happens.

When we have a busy mind, we carry around thoughts, worse case scenarios, beliefs and patterns that might have been created weeks, months and or even years ago. Working with a mentor not only allows you work through the long-standing things but also those little things that trip you up week to week. Rather than holding on or waiting for the ‘right time’ we dealt with it then and there – only because I knew I was safe.

You get a new set of tools for your toolbox.

In my experience, building up your personal ‘toolbox’ in life and business is about creating an arsenal of practices and rituals that support you to live the way you want to live. The personal development world is getting bigger by the day, so having someone that shows you what you need in that moment feels supported and easy.

You gain clarity on your ‘why’ in business/life and a deeper understanding of who you’ve always been.

Mentoring asks you the questions that not many people will ever ask you – why, why, and why again. We often know ‘what’ we want, but we don’t know ‘why’ we want it.

Mentoring doesn’t seek to change who you are. Instead, we guide you to discover more about what lights you up, what you value and what your strengths are.
