3 simple tools to transform your money beliefs

June 16, 2017

If you find yourself landing on this blog post today, then welcome to part two of our series on money.

In working with many over the past year, I noticed that our relationship with money can be a little sticky. A subject that we don’t feel comfortable talking about or experience a loss of confidence when it comes to money and making powerful choices.

In the first part of this three-part series on money, I asked you to complete this set of questions (download HERE).

Together, we looked at your history and past experiences, to find out whether this may have a bearing on what beliefs you hold today – especially if money makes you nervous.

The reason I asked you to look into your past, is that some of the beliefs you have today, you may have unconsciously carried through your life. Your actions today, may be a reaction to those past experiences – for fear of repeating a cycle – perhaps you don’t want to experience what your parents went through.

Why owning your money story will transform your life (from my experience)

May 31, 2017
Heart driven success.
Creating your definition of abundance then living it.
and how you define living abundantly is entirely your choosing.
Your definition could include one or more elements of your life – your health, your wellbeing, particular possessions, finances, where you live.  The things that are the very foundation for you to grow, create and share with the world.

Sounds all very simple, easy to follow – right? Abundance is my middle name I hear you say.

Or maybe not. Maybe abundance sounds great in theory but what about in reality?

You open your wallet, you look in your fridge, log in to your online banking and somehow things don’t feel so ‘abundant’ anymore.

So, in my experience, we can’t talk about abundance without first addressing its most common association – money.

When you break it down, money is just one tool that allows us to invest in our growth and our human evolution, through new experiences. If we are feeling less than abundant, then the decision to undertake a period of growth and transformation will be rife with debate.

Because money is not seen as a tool to open our eyes to greater possibility, or eye-opening experiences.

These new ‘eye-opening’ experiences could be further education, courses, working with coaches, a mastermind, therapists, attending workshops, walking over hot coals…which I’d much prefer to do than sit in a cave for 10 years and meditate – despite the cave being a route that requires minimal financial investment.

Would you agree that you freely invest in your growth? or is money the biggest factor in this decision? Designer dress or a session with a kinesiologist? Waaaaaay easier, and more comfortable to go designer – right? You’ve already got the university degree, that counts right?

There will be some women out there nodding their heads, because we LOVE learning.

But for many of the beautiful souls out there, investing in our growth, possibility and potential, is scary and requires stepping into the unknown.

There are no guarantees, nor do we obtain something physical in return that is evidence of our investment. Designer dresses are typically not included. Which is why we take the seemingly easier route.

Opt out.

Instead if we invested, we trusted, we persisted and we allowed passion and desire to fill our veins, the vision eventually becomes a reality.

And suddenly your direct association between abundance and the status of your bank account shifts dramatically.

I believe we need to get comfortable with investing in our growth for one key reason – if you don’t know what you don’t know – why that fear might be holding you back, then it makes sense to find someone that could shine a light on it.

Download your PDF here, brew a cup of tea and set aside 30mins to complete this powerful exercise.

Let’s go back to my original statement about defining abundance.

Perhaps your beautiful vision of abundance involves creating a business to be your own boss and serve others, or relocate out of the city so you can start a veggie patch and live off the land. Down the line, there will likely be some financial investment to get it off the ground. Stepping into this vision requires you to up skill or step into a new version of yourself with the support of a team or an accountability partner to get you over the line.

When we give excuses for not investing and not doing the work, we are in a state of resistance, and we deny ourselves the investment because of…money.

Or rather it’s not money itself but our beliefs, and our story about money that holds us back.

These beliefs create our identity. Which creates our behaviours and verbal excuses – how we spend, what we spend it on, what we say about money, or what we don’t say about money. And so the cycle continues.

To break the cycle, you need to first own your money story.

So what was my money story?

For a long time, my version of abundance was wrapped up in status. I probably lived the first 20-odd years of my life via a lens of comparison and material attainment. Some of this was conscious, some of this by default because of the way money is portrayed in Western society. This lens created some pretty interesting thoughts and behaviours around money, which were typically skewed towards lack and not enough therefore always striving for a bigger, flashier version of myself.

I can recall a number of times as a child that fed into this story – breaking down on the ski field in our old car, mum cleaning her friends houses when my parents separated or mum making our clothes as children.

But my lens distorted the really good stuff – what I didn’t see was that my parents chose worldly experience over shiny objects – we camped through Europe for 3 months as a teenager because they chose education and culture. They were rebellious and creative with money.  Once I owned my story around money, the distorted lens was lost and instead I could really see what was possible with money when you exercised a little creativity.

I then set about defining abundance for myself based on my values and my vision for my life.

What allowed me to see clearly this new beautiful version of abundance – first choosing my personal growth over that designer dress. Choosing to be worthy of that bigger vision for my life instead of continuing the same old patterns.

On to today’s mini challenge…

I want you to feel empowered when it comes to your finances, your future and therefore all that potential that’s available to you.

To feel empowered, we first acknowledge where we are at right now and where we have come from with respect to money. This allows us to see where we might have been holding on to some funky thoughts and beliefs. We do this through a simple journalling exercise.

Download your PDF here, brew a cup of tea and set aside 30mins to complete this powerful exercise.

I would love to hear what came up for you in doing this exercise? what surprised you? what felt good? what things do you want to let go of?

Resources I’m using for motivation, creation and transforming relationships

April 2, 2017

A few years ago you would have found me sitting on a bus with white Apple spec headphones in and commuting several hours a day to and from the city. I had a whole lot of time up my sleeve and there was only so much scrolling Pinterest and Instagram that could be done in 90 minutes a day (and that was on a good day).

Hours of my life turned into making my way through podcasts and books, all the while evolving my curiosity for human growth and potential.

Today, with those commutes behind me (which has now become a more balanced 10 minute drive), I still draw inspiration in the same way – not only to grow and challenge my own thinking, but to support those who I serve through my work in leading women to transformation.

This year I chose to reduce my reading list considerably (to less than 5 books), while others layer book over book, month after month, I felt it necessary to put the breaks on consumption in an effort to turn up the volume on my own voice in this space. Less influenced writing and more truth telling.

Potent honesty from the heart.

So I invite you to dive into this list, but with one request, that you take it slowly. Read and listen with intent to learn and then go into the world and implement that which truly resonates.

Books I’m reading:

The School Of Greatness by Lewis Howes

This book started my year in style and even had my husband attempting to claim it as his own. This book literally catapulted me into action, and saw us make some radical changes to our wider team – John read ‘everyone needs a coach’ so he went out and got one – true story, I love that men just DO.  I was always a big fan of Lewis’s podcast and this book is a practical extension of that.

Read this when you need a big serving of motivation and inspiration to create a vision and a purpose driven life. Perfect for you if you are toying with the idea of starting your business, Lewis lays the foundation with his all-American boy charm.

White Hot Truth by Danielle LaPorte

Officially the print copy of this book isn’t due out till May 2017, but you can get your hands on the audiobook when you pre-order. And well, obviously I couldn’t wait because I listened cover to cover in just 2 days.

I credit this woman’s previous books (Fire Starter Sessions and The Desire Map) as having a significant effect on the course of my life. So after seeing this woman grace the stage in Melbourne, I knew she was the real deal. She so eloquently dishes out her poetic thoughts on all things from growth, spirituality, relationships to money but won’t sugar coat the truth. In fact, you might be surprised about her ‘truth’ around the personal development industry – important words that need to be said.

Read this if you are ready to get down to the core of being human, perhaps your about to make a change and you need some reassurance that someone else has also been there. Told in a way that will leave you ready to get real about how you’re living.

How to Live a Good Life by Jonathan Fields

As you can see from the podcasts listed below, I’ve been following Jonathan Fields for a while so naturally when he puts out a book I was in. How to Live a Good Life is the curation of his own habits and the habits of his guests (as well as scientific backing) accumulated over several years of interviews.

Unlike many personal development books, it goes much deeper than productivity and creating a big life, instead he has divided life into 3 essential, measurable buckets – vitality, connection and contribution. The concept of the book is that each bucket has 10 practices, so you can make your way through the book as a challenge or picking up one habit if you feel a need to fill up a bucket.

Read this if you’re looking for something you can pick up and put down as needed. The simplicity and care with which the habits have been selected will make it easy to transition into the bucket life!

Podcasts I’m listening to…

Listen to this for personal development, life hacking and personal stories: The Tim Ferriss Show: Favourite episodes include No. 212 2016 What I’ve learned, No.186 with Tony Robbins, No.124 with Jamie Foxx – this is one for a long car ride, the humour, stories and intellect are incredible.

Listen to this when you need to get motivated: Inside Quest with Tom Bilyeu. Favourite guests include Lisa Nichols and Tony Robbins.

Listen to this when you need support in your relationships and want to explore your femininity more: Untame Yourself Radio with Elizabeth Dialto: Favourite guests include Philip McKernon, Alison Armstrong, Martha Beck and Nancy Levin.

Listen or watch this when you want to get inside the mind of an entrepreneur, writer or spiritual teachers: Good Life Project with Jonathan Fields. Favourite guests include Panache Desai, Elizabeth Gilbert and Elena Brower. I also suggest going back through the Good Life Project TV files and checking out episodes with Brene Brown, Marie Forleo, Danielle LaPorte and Lewis Howes.

Now I would love to know what you’re reading for inspiration? what book took you from on the couch to taking action in a matter of days?

Share in the comments below and of course if you know someone that might love this list, be sure to share it with them.

4 Simple Practices To Sharpen Your Intuition

March 16, 2017

A few weeks ago I had a Skype session with a gorgeous angel intuitive. Much of what she told me, I had already brought to fruition in the form of goals and desires in the weeks prior to our date. Which kinda shocked me, but I also had a funny feeling in my stomach that she was just confirming my own inner knowing.

However, the most illuminating thing about this experience, is that what she told me that day, had already been told to others in my family who had their own separate experiences with intuitive. Crazy huh? Or maybe not…

This got me curious about these two questions:

Is our path predetermined?

Or can we create, or choose our own destiny by using our inner guidance?

The experience I had with the intuitive, would probably leave you thinking that life is option a) – it’s predetermined.

To a certain extent maybe, but option b) has always seemed possible to me.

Today’s video is simply my observations, and stems from my curiosity.

In fact, I’ve always thought it cool that we could wake up tomorrow and begin to take the steps towards living our dream life.

You’ve possibly heard about tools like manifesting, law of attraction, affirmations – yeah?

Many of these tools come back to observing your thoughts, shifting limiting beliefs and rewiring your neural pathways – to bring in more of what you want. So this would suggest to me that we can create our own destiny. Despite the adversity we might face at times or the things that feel out of our control at times.

BUT ultimately, through these tools, we are able to change the lens through we see ourselves and the world.

This lens is the product when we embody an upward positive energy, a mind that is expanded to what’s possible, and the amount of time spent feeling stuck, sad, angry or resentful become less and less. It feels damn good when you’re in that state.

It’s all powerful stuff right?

So, then it got me thinking, how does our intuition (or our deep inner wisdom) play a part in our destiny?

Is intuition a gift we are born with or is it something we can strengthen – as we would a muscle?

Are practices like meditation one way to strengthen this muscle?

It is believed that intuition is something we all have, for some of us it is naturally stronger from a younger age.

The beautiful thing about developing your ability to listen to your intuition, is the subtle cues it provides us – that often can’t be explained through regular forms of communication like talking, reading or writing.

Intuition, I believe is an inner guidance mechanism, that allows us to lower the noise of thinking and being in our minds all the time – which I’m sure we all know well?

So if meditation is about awareness, being deeply observant – then ultimately we are creating an intimacy with ourselves.

We are deeply connected with our heart space.

I’ve seen it in my own life, that meditation is one of the quickest ways to flex this awareness muscle.

But so is the intimacy we create with our bodies.

Over time, the more you fine tune this intimacy, the body becomes a sort of barometer for when the pressure is too high or too low and we need to dial it accordingly.

This is where self care comes in.

Yep, I know I bang on a lot about this shit, but I know it is 100% the essence of maintaining our power and living our our truth.

They say ‘behind every great man is a great woman’…well I believe, behind every great human is a fully dialled in self care plan.

So in order to create the future that unfolded in my angel reading the other day, I am certain there are a couple of things that will both support and guide me towards that path, which is what I want to share with you today

//  Tuning into my body moment to moment, day to day. What do I need right now to thrive in this body so that I can create the life I want to live? What foods? What exercise? To stay up or go to sleep? This is self care.

//  Heart opening exercises – specific yoga poses or movement like dance that allow you to open the front of the body, move the spine in all directions and release tension.

//  Disconnect and get into nature. How can we truly listen to ourselves if we are always connected to our devices, even something as simple as walking barefoot creates a beautiful earth connection.

//  And finally, get in touch with creative side, paint, dance, do whatever gets you in the zone and forgetting about all those things you think are constraining you. I can remember what it felt like as a child to be engaged in play and everything was possible.

So, I have a little challenge for you.

Which of these four things are you going to incorporate into your day or week?

If you want to put a lid on some of those thoughts that race around your head and begin to listen to the real answers that are in there, these sure fire ways will get there.

So what next? Perhaps you’ve got that niggling feeling that you’re ready to shake things up? You want to bridge that disconnect you feel with yourself or your career or your relationships?

My secrets to building deeper connections

February 17, 2017

As I write this I’m sitting on a train to Sydney with my Mama having spent several days together with my beautiful sister in Newcastle.

We come together rarely these days, but we always jam-pack it with our favourite things – movies, several coffees, lunch, shopping, beach swims, cooking delicious meals, sharing stories and our wisdom with one another.

It has often struck me the significant long-term value created by these intense periods of connection. You can have a couple of hours with a girlfriend you haven’t seen in months and it fills you both up for weeks to come. We’ve gone so far as to drop people back at the airport while they’re transiting in Melbourne just to be able to connect.

Back to the daily grind and we quickly lament the ‘busyness’ of our lives. Our physical and emotional energy is spread thin (which is not the way I like my peanut butter!). This busyness leads to a pattern of forever trying to find that perfect balance in all areas of life. This is true for the food we eat, exercise we do, our careers and our relationships.

Since we’re on the topic of connection and relationships, lets go there.

I’ve come to feel strongly that the strength of our relationships isn’t defined by quantity – although social media would have us believing so.

The strength of our relationships is proportionate to the depth, not time or the number of.

To go deep can be scary, because we are suddenly unmasked, we have nowhere to hide.

Obviously there will be wide-ranging perceptions of what depth looks like from one being to another, but there are a few key things anyone can do to enhance the depth.

Begin with the belief that the eyes are a window to your soul.

Look your beloved in the eyes – our body language, especially the eyes speak volumes for our level of attention.

For a long time, I really had to practice looking people in the eyes when they spoke. I was totally uncomfortable, but this practice alone did wonders for my confidence one on one with people. As this began to grow to an audience, I took the same idea with me.

Listen to listen when you relate (this is a major practice!) and give them your undivided attention.

Even if you’re only have 10 minutes for an exchange at the end of the day with your beloved, in that 10 minutes you are 100% present with them.

As with looking someone in the eyes my awareness also increase around my lack of listening, so I practiced listening. As my man knows, I’m an effervescent woman who was great at finishing sentences in the past. Now 90% of my work as a mentor is listening.

Do you remember what it felt like the last time someone really listened to you? Did you feel loved? did it feel like time stood still?

This is what I believe abundance truly feels like. Again, depth not time.

We too often judge ourselves on the lack of time with loved ones, the lack of connection in our relationships. But rather than focus on the lack – think about what you can do to create depth?

A recent podcast from a personal development coach, highlighted three more ideas for creating deeper connections.

The first relating to the subject of time.

Create sacred dates.

If ‘lack of time’ has become a reoccurring theme for you, then I suggest planning in major chunks of time with your family, friends or partner in advance – perhaps in 3 or 6 month blocks. This could be a holiday, a day date – far enough in advanced that you build the rest of your schedule to meet that date.

The second point in the podcast related to the content of our conversations.

Dare to dream together.

This is a beautiful practice to tie in with our sacred dates. When was the last time you talked about your vision for the future, or expressed a wild idea you had while you’re in the shower? When you create space together away from the distractions of daily life, these ideas flow easily and naturally.

The third related to how we get present before we enter a situation or conversation with our closest humans. This was also a lovely piece of advice that my mother-in-law has given me in the past before going into a deep conversation with her son.

Breathe. Then enter the moment.

Before you get out of the car, on your walk home from the train take a handful of deep breaths to ground you. Or you could even plan your conversation around a yoga class or a run to get you a little more present in your body.

If any of these ideas connect with you please let me know in the comments below.

If you’re craving to feel more connected to your loved ones, then focussing on depth by using these few little things will go a long way. Soon you will be able to feel a level of depth with not just your loved ones but even a stranger. And that’s when the real magic happens!

Beautiful, are you ready to create a deeper connection to yourself, your career and your relationships?

Good news is that connection already exists within you, sometimes it takes a little help to discover it.

You are invited to begin this journey today by joining me for a 30min coaching call to learn how we do this.
