Breakfast Bowl for Glowing Skin By Kamina Nagel, The Glow Seeker

kamina nagal breakfast smoothie

Not too long ago, my mornings looked very different to what they look like today. My alarm would go off at 8am, leaving just enough time to run through the shower, throw on my clothes and grab an Up&Go on the way out the door.

On a good day, I’d settle into to a bowl of 3 Weetbix with milk – not the most inspiring (or nutritious) way to start the day!

Then I discovered something that made me actually want to jump out of bed at 6am: cold-pressed juices and nutrient-packed smoothies. From gorgeous green juices to big beautiful smoothie bowls, I still get excited by the endless flavour sensations I can whip up in my tiny kitchen – all before 8am. And when I started becoming interested in learning about the benefits of the produce I was working with every morning, sharing my love for these liquid creations became one of my biggest passions.

Every few weeks I get inspired to create something new in my beloved Omniblend, and my latest smoothie is jam-packed with nutrients and enzymes that do wonders for the skin:

Blueberriessweet balls of vitamin C to help neutralize free radicals which cause pre-mature ageing and Vitamin C to reduce wrinkles and reducing dark spots.
Spinach rich in vitamin B, protecting skin from the ultra violet rays that can cause sun damage, skin cancer and pre-mature ageing of skin.
Cacaocontains high levels of flavonoids, natural antioxidants that protect your body from ageing and diseases caused by free radicals, and sulfer to helps maintain strong nails and shiny hair.
Avocadofull of essential fatty acids that act as a natural moisturiser for your skin, Vitamin E which boosts skin vitality and luminosity and Vitamin C which reduces skin inflammation.
Linseedsrich in omega-3 fats that encourage the production of anti-inflammatory compounds, and essential fatty acids that keep your skin hydrated.
Minthas calming, healing properties that can help aid digestion relieve stress and symptoms of acne.

This delicious smoothie bowl is perfect for breakfast, dessert or even an afternoon snack at work – just pour it into a mason jar and pop it in the fridge. There’s so much kindness inside, and the hint of chocolate-y goodness gives it a little kick.

I hope you love it, and that it inspires you to experiment with smoothies in your own kitchen.

Cacao-berry Mint Smoothie Bowl | Serves 2
  • 1 slightly overripe banana, chopped
  • 1 Lebanese cucumber, chopped
  • 1 big handful fresh spinach
  • ½ small avocado
  • 2 small handfuls blueberries
  • 1 small handful raspberries
  • 5 leaves of fresh mint
  • 1 tbsp linseeds
  • 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • 5 ice cubes (using filtered water)

Toppings (optional)

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp activated buckinis
  • 1/2 tsp bee pollen

What to do:

This is the best part about smoothies – you really don’t have to do much! Simply throw all of your ingredients into a blender (a high-powered one is best, like a Vitamix, Blendtec or Omniblend) for 30-60 seconds. Top with whatever you please, and enjoy with someone you love.
