Spirited, The Desire Map & other inner beauty tools for 2014

February 12, 2014

I love this time of year, anticipation of what’s to come for the year ahead, a sense of renewal, shedding of old ideas and opening the way for new possibilities.

There are always goals on the board throughout the year and I for one, have a tendency to race ahead at full speed in order to achieve them, going from one to the other without many breaths in between. So when the new year rolls around, I make a point of taking the time to sit down, to pause, to just be.  Seeing what ‘comes up’ for me but with a focus on those soul-deep ‘core desired feelings’ that Ms Danielle LaPorte has me hooked on.

In the coming weeks, I will be revisiting my vision and goals so in order to help me along with the process I thought it might be fun to look at some of the inspiration tools floating around at A Conscious Beauty:

Good For You Ingredients – Argan Oil

I love oils! You know I’m head over heals for Coconut Oil but one oil which has recently grabbed my attention is Moroccan Argan Oil. It was an oil that I had heard of but never indulged in, until by chance I was given a bottle as a secret Santa present in December (my friends know me well!).

Moroccan Argan Oil (argania spinosa) is a very rare and special tree, as it is only grown in the dry and harsh environment of South West Morocco. The Berber women of the region have known of it’s healing properties for hundreds of years time but its popularity as a cosmetic ingredient has increased in the Western world in the last 5 years.

Why you should go organic at that time of the month

Being A Conscious Beauty is about living a life that follows a holistic approach to beauty, both inside and out. For us, this means making conscious choices every day about the products that touch our skin. It is being confident that what you put on your skin, is as clean and natural as that green smoothie you devoured this morning.

One product often hidden from view (but plays a pivotal role every month for a large part of a women’s life) are personal hygiene products. Yes we are talking about tampons and pads. Yes Tampons and pads ladies!

One of my little secrets is that I have a number of girl crushes on female entrepreneurs (sprung!). One woman who recently stood out to me, is Aimee Marks and her Australian born and bred company – TOM Organic. She is all things tampons and pads, and her mission that started as a teenager has become an amazing organic product with a huge vision. While I could chat all day about her entrepreneurial skills, we should probably get down to the nitty-gritty of WHY organic tampons?

What trail running taught me about beauty

A few snaps from my running journey

A few snaps from my running journey

One of last year’s goals taught me something I never expected to learn. I guess you could say I went on a form of spiritual journey, with running as my vessel for learning.

I had set a goal to do a 27km trail run in New Zealand, but I didn’t expect the hours spent training would teach me as much as the race. I discovered the truth that it is the journey, not the goal or the end result that teaches you the most. It was in the journey that I found a new side to Beauty in more ways than one.

It started out something like this – I hadn’t really trained to run long distance in over 3 years. Body in shock, big time. Most of my training was solo, so if you are going to learn about yourself, it’s when it’s hard and there’s not a soul around that you’ll discover the unknown.

Good for you ingredients – Rosehip Oil

January 9, 2014

What is Rosehip Oil?

I first discovered Rosehip Oil back in my University days. While I didn’t have much spare cash floating around to spend on luxury items, I always made it a priority to use natural and organic skincare when I could.

During this time, I noticed the increasing popularity of Roeship Oil in both Australian and New Zealand skincare brands. Brands including Kosmea and Trilogy, started to emerge as leaders in the use of Rosehip Oil. While it appeared to be marketed more towards the ‘mature’ skin types, its benefit on sensitive skin appealed to me most. Over the years, I have grown to love many brands and products containing this wondrous oil, and constantly search out cleansers and creams that contain it.
